A Microtome is a sectioning instrument that allows for the cutting of extremely thin slices of material, known as sections so as to view them under a microscope. A typical microtome consists of a stationary blade and a moving feed. The up and down movement of the feed on the blade cuts fine sections of paraffin embedded tissues. In a cryostat microtome, the whole microtome assembly is placed inside a closed chamber with temperature as low as -40 deg C.
